Digital Scoring Policy & Instructions

The MGA uses the Golf Genius “Digital Scorecard” method of electronic scoring.  This is used in all MGA championships and qualifying events, as well as all USGA qualifying events.  It is important that you make yourself aware of this new method by reading these instructions and/or watching the video posted on the event webpage before arriving at the tournament site.

This new method is the “official” means by which scores are recorded and returned. The MGA will not be providing paper scorecards. If you wish to keep a paper scorecard as a backup to this method, you may do so. The hole lengths of the course being played are available for downloading from the webpage for each event. Course scorecards will be available at each starting tee.

While scoring in this manner will not use much power, you should be sure your device (phone) is fully charged before starting your round to avoid complications caused by a “dead” phone during the round.  Also, this process uses very little data for those with limited data plans.

You also should keep your phone in your pocket briefly after entering scores, as your phone will need to upload the scores. Periodically, phones kept in the golf bag or the compartment of a push cart may not sync.

NOTE: You are expected to go to the Scoring Area upon the completion of your round.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Doug Hoffmann, MGA Director of Rules and Competitions, at Doug@mngolf.org or (612) 964-4249.

Step 1: Ensure you have the Golf Genius App downloaded to your phone.
If you do not have the app, you can find it in the App Store or Play Store.

Step 2: Log in to the Mobile App
To log into the mobile app, you will need to enter your Player GGID, which the tournament administrator will provide. DO NOT LOGIN WITH YOUR EMAIL AND PASSWORD.

After logging in, you either will view marker assignments or select your assignments. In most events, the Committee will pre-assign markers based on your position in the grouping (Player 1 marks for Player 2, Player 2 for 3 and 3 for 1.)

After viewing or selecting your marker assignments, you will then be directed to the score entry page for your first hole.

Step 3: Entering Scores
On the score entry page, you can then enter scores for the player you are marking. You can also enter your own scores in the "Markers Notes." After entering scores and markers notes for a hole, click "Save Scores," and your screen will advance to the next hole.

Step 4: Conclusion of the Round - The Scoring Area for Reviewing and Certifying Scores

NOTE: You are expected to go to the Scoring Area upon the completion of your round.

After entering and saving scores for all holes, you will be directed to a page to review and certify scores.

From this page, you will see both the scores for the player for whom you have been scoring and your own scores. If there is a discrepancy in what was entered by the marker and player, the score will be highlighted in YELLOWYou should get with the other player to rectify the mistake(s) prior to certifying the scores.

Once both players and markers agree on the scores, both must certify the scores.

Once you have certified your scores as a player and your marker has certified your scores as a marker, your scores will be ready to be submitted to your tournament administrator.

If you ever need to return to the review and certify area, you can do so by selecting "Digital Scorecards" on the home screen of the mobile app.
